INFORMATION ABOUT THE EXEMPTION
Recent amendments to the Real Property Tax Law (signed into law by the Governor in December 2025) expand property tax relief available to eligible senior citizens. The statutory change will not take effect for the upcoming fiscal year 2026-27 unless acted upon by the school district by March 1, 2026.On December 5, 2022, the Wappingers Board of Education approved a resolution adopting a partial tax exemption for our seniors up to a maximum income eligibility level of $50,000 to qualify for a 50% exemption. The statute now authorizes a school district to offer the following exemption structure:
Effective July 1, 2026 for the 2026–2027 school year and ensuing school years
Income $49,001-$49,999: 50% reduction in assessed valuation
Income $48,001-$48,999: 55% reduction in assessed valuation
Income $47,001-$47,999: 60% reduction in assessed valuation
less than $47,000: 65% reduction in assessed valuationThe Board of Education invites your comments prior to the public hearing. Please send your comments by email to: wcsd.comments@wcsdny.org at any time prior to the anticipated adoption by the Board of Education on February 23, 2026, or you may choose to speak in person at the Public Hearing scheduled below.
The Board of Education will hold a Public Hearing on Monday, February 23, 2026, at about 7:30 pm at Wappingers JHS (30 Major MacDonald Way, Wappingers Falls NY) to seek input/feedback on Extending the Partial Tax Exemption Structure for Senior Citizens.

Important Reminder: Daycare Transportation Requests need to be completed every year and returned to the Transportation Office no later than April 1, 2026.
You'll find all of the forms here.
Even if you are not sure which daycare provider you will use next year, fill it out anyway! It’s easier to change or update a request than create a new request after the deadline.
